Morbius trailer – Spider-Man references abound (UPDATED)

At long last, the first Morbius trailer has arrived, and it may present us with more questions than anything.

Jared Leto was cast as Morbius ages ago, and we followed the production via set photos, but then things went quiet. Finally, we have some footage, and it looks fantastic. However, it also presents us with some questions.

We see some graffiti of Spider-Man on a wall, and it looks an awful lot like the Stark suit worn by Tom Holland in the MCU films. (UPDATE: Having gotten a much higher resolution copy of the trailer now, no, it is the Rami suit without question. Which makes all of this way more puzzling.) That could be just an easter egg, but the big moment comes at the end. As Morbius walks up to a car and Michael Keaton asks, “Got tired of doing the whole good guy thing, huh?”

Now, you could easily say we don’t know who Keaton is playing here, but that sure sounds like the voice he used for Adrian Toomes/Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Unless we hear something official that contradicts this, it looks as though Morbius just firmly landed as a surprise entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We’re sure more details will be coming soon, and we can’t wait to hear them.

Morbius hits theaters on July 31.
