Andy Serkis is the man of the hour having just been confirmed as the director of Venom 2. Before he sits down to direct the film, however, a few hurdles need to be crossed such as writing the film.
Appearing at the Critics Association press tour to support his role as the Ghost of Christmas Past in FX’s upcoming A Christmas Carol, Serkis was asked about the status of the film. “I’m right in the beginning stages, so I’ve got some very clear ideas about the journey, [and what] I’d like to see visually, and how we can take the characters into another direction,” Serkis explained.
The big revelation, however, was that Tom Hardy is involved in the writing of the film. “Tom was very involved with the writing–with [screenwriter] Kelly Marcel–of the new story,” said Serkis. “So it’s very much centered around their take.”
For now, the excitement is very much centered around getting to work on the film. “I’m excited to work with all the great actors who are involved. It’s a fantastic franchise,” he said. “I’m really honored to have been asked to direct it. And it feels like it’s a very, again, very contemporary story. And it’s I think it’s going to be, hopefully, a story piece of cinema.”
Of course, this still leaves us with no answer as to what the story will be this time around, but you can definitely color us interested in seeing it take shape.
