‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ passes ‘Wonder Woman’ at the box office after huge China opening

Wonder Woman was the big blockbuster to beat this summer, and this weekend, Spider-Man: Homecoming did just that. The latest Spider-Man movie opened to $70.8 million in China, pushing its worldwide box office total to $823 million, surpassing Wonder Woman’s $816 million.

At $70.8 million, Spider-Man: Homecoming holds the record for the third-biggest China debut for a superhero movie, behind only Avengers: Age of Ultron ($115.8 million) and Captain America: Civil War ($93.6 million).

With box office numbers like these, I don’t think Sony has any regrets teaming up with Marvel for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
