The rumor from a couple of weeks ago has been confirmed! Vacation directors and writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will pen Marvel and Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Their background in writing comedy includes movies like Horrible Bosses and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The two confirmed the news in an interview with NPR while promoting their new movie. Here’s what they had to say when asked about writing the Spider-Man reboot.
Daley: We can finally acknowledge that.
Goldstein: We’ve been saying no comment for the last week.
Daley: This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it.
Goldstein: We’re thrilled.
Daley: … He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor. It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein join director Jon Watts and the new Spider-Man himself Tom Holland. The untitled Marvel/Sony Spider-Man reboot is scheduled for a July 28, 2017 release.
