Shailene Woodley reveals her first reaction after being cut from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Shailene Woodley was cast as The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Mary Jane Watson, and even filmed a few short scenes for the movie. Director Marc Webb decided to cut those scenes so that the story could focus on Peter and Gwen’s relationship.

In the July issue of Vanity Fair, Woodley opens up about being cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and shares her initial reaction:

“For a few hours it was literally like, ‘Oh, my God, was I awful? Why did they cut me? What are people going to think?’ I woke up the next morning and I was like, ‘O.K., it makes total sense.’ I’m a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn’t like it.”

Mary Jane Watson is supposed to make her Marc Webb debut in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and it’s unlikely that Shailene Woodley will keep the part. The actress has stated that her commitment to the Divergent franchise will prevent her from being in yet another huge summer blockbuster.
