Update: It appears that William Spencer misunderstood the question. He cleared up all the confusion about the Spider-Man costume here.

We all know that Spider-Man will look a little different in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 thanks to an official photo of the new costume that was released last month. Now it appears that Spidey won’t be in that new suit until later on in the movie. Andrew Garfield’s stunt double William Spencer tweeted a photo of himself in the original costume from 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. This isn’t an old photo from the first movie, Spencer confirmed to a fan that this photo was indeed from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

I think this is great news because that means the reason for Spider-Man’s new suit will be written into the story. In the Batman movies from the 90s Batman would just show up a different costume each time without an explanation. Christopher Nolan broke this trend in The Dark Knight by explaining why Batman needed a new suit. It’s cool to see that Marc Webb seems to be taking a similar approach.

Why do you think Spider-Man will switch costumes in The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Let me know in the comments below.
