It looks as though Sony Pictures has found its Madame Web and has cast Dakota Johnson in the role.

According to a new report from Deadline, Johnson is in final talks to star as Madame Web in a standalone film. S.J. Clarkson is onboard to direct from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

In the comics, Madame Web has powers such as telepathy and clairvoyance, but in Spider-Man: The Animated Series she had a much bigger purpose. She was tasked with testing Spider-Men from multiple dimensions to find the one to take on a villain called Spider-Carnage. While the threat could be changed to anything, the idea of a multidimensional trial of various Spider-Men could be very interesting to audiences.

As it stands right now nothing is known about the plot of the film, but the latest reports indicate it is targeting filming before the end of 2022. No release date has been announced as of yet.
