Spider-Man: No Way Home had the second-biggest opening day ever and is on track for even more records this weekend.
Combined with its $50M in previews on Thursday, Spider-Man: No Way Home took in $121.5 million on its opening day, launching it into second place for the biggest single days at the domestic box office. First place belongs to Avengers:Endgame with $157.46 million, and third place belongs to Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $119.11 million.
Sony Pictures is currently projecting a weekend gross of $242 million in the U.S., although some analysts are saying it could go higher. The current top five highest opening weekends are:
- Avengers: Endgame – $357.11 million
- Avengers: Infinity War – $257.69 million
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens – $247.96 million
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi – $220 million
- Jurassic World – $208.8 million
We’re going to predict fourth place is a lock, but third place isn’t out of the question.
This is a welcome event for theaters that have struggled through the pandemic. How far this film can go is anyone’s guess and the coming days will need to be monitored closely.
