Disney has announced an animated prequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is on the way entitled Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
During the Disney Plus Day event, Marvel Studios shared the first look at the logo for Spider-Man: Freshman Year. The new series will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and follow the earliest days of Peter Parker.
There’s no word yet if this is a limited series or an ongoing series. We imagine it will conclude with the events leading directly into Homecoming.
While we most definitely didn’t need yet another retelling of Peter’s origin in a film, this is a fun way to tell that story. From the very brief sample of art shown in a video on Disney Plus, it looks as though the style will tend towards Steve Ditko’s original art. If that’s correct, we can’t wait to see it.
No word on a debut date for the new series as of yet.
