Three Bolivian brothers have learned the hard way that what you see in movies isn’t always real.

A trio of brothers – aged 12, 10, and 8 – in Bolivia recently had a run-in with a black widow spider. The siblings encountered the arachnid while herding goats in Chayanta and decided to see if it could give them the powers of Spider-Man. They prodded the arachnid with a stick until it eventually bit all three of them.

As the black widow is one of the most venomous spiders on the planet, it is unsurprising that the three boys ended up in the hospital.

Their mother first took them to a nearby health center after she found them in pain and crying. From there they were taken to a hospital. From there they were transferred one more time to the Children’s Hospital in La Paz where they spent a week being treated.

The children are now home and recovered and should have no further complications.

This certainly should serve as a reminder as it is never too early to have a talk with your children or younger siblings about the separation between reality and fantasy.
