The cast of Spider-Man: Far From Home has begun its global press tour, and there was a bit of a surprise on the first stop. While normally someone dying their hair shouldn’t be a huge deal, but when it’s clear that it is to honor a character, you take notice.
Zendaya showed up at the London photocall with red hair. While some thought it may be a hint she’s taking the role of Aeriel in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, it was to honor the character of Mary Jane Watson. The actor confirmed this in a tweet.
The saga of Zendaya being the actual MJ is a long one. It was kept a secret during the production of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and only confirmed at the end of the film. Now that we know that she is indeed the true Mary Jane, people have wondered about the hair color. In the comics MJ has flaming red hair, but Marvel hasn’t gone that route in the films. It honestly doesn’t fit with this particular characterization of her, so it’s nice to see her doing it on her own for the press tour.
