Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Almost Featured Three Live-Action Spider-Men

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was already pretty chockful of different incarnations of the web-slinger, but it seems there was once a chance of three more appearing.

With Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse becoming the surprise darling of the awards season, co-director Rodney Rothman is making the interview rounds. He sat down with The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith to discuss the film and talked about an unseen cameo.

It seems that at one point there was a discussion of the three most recent live-action Spider-Man actors appearing in the film. “I wrote a scene that had every,” began Rothman, “that had Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in the same scene and… I don’t want to get into it but I did write that scene, but there’s a lot of anxiety, there’s a lot of anxiety around the movie generally and there was anxiety about confusing people.”

What a missed oppurtunity. Perhaps if it had been saved for the end credits so it felt like a different part of the film. Maybe it can be reconsidered for the sequel, because it sure feels like it would be fun to see it happen.
