We’ve seen a few set images from Spider-Man: Far From Home of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, but Marvel still has yet to release anything official. Thanks to a new spread in Empire Magazine, however, we have the next best thing.
The spread features promo art that sees Gyllenhaal’s likeness in full Mysterio costume, looking much more heroic than villainous.

There’s actually been a lot of conflicting information about Gyllenhaal’s character over the past few weeks. When people found out Mysterio would be in Far From Home, many expected him to be the movie’s main villain. However, it was recently revealed that Mysterio would be helping Spider-Man fight a group of characters known as Eternals.
It could be that Mysterio will moonlight as a hero but eventually turn to villainy, using his mastery of illusions to deceive Spidey and Nick Fury. We don’t know what Mysterio’s ultimate motive will be, but chances are the magician’s intentions aren’t what they seem.
It’s unclear if this is official promo art or simply something Empire conjured up based on Mysterio’s comic look and the set photos that leaked. Either way, it’s nice to see Gyllenhaal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
