Sony Still Really Wants to Do a Sinister Six Movie

After Sony failed to reboot the Spider-Man universe with The Amazing Spider-Man films, all hope for a Sinister Six movie was lost. Now, however, Sony is reviving talks around a potential film, with producer Amy Pascal saying she’s waiting on director Drew Goddard.

The renewed interest in Sinister Six comes at a time when Spider-Man and its properties couldn’t be more popular. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Venom exceeded expectations at the box office. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has earned rave reviews from critics.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Pascal said she’s still holding out hope a Sinister Six film will happen.

“I’m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it,” Pascal said. “I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I’m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to.”

Goddard has been attached to make an X-Force movie, but with Disney in the middle of acquiring 21st Century Fox, those plans are now up in the air. That could make Pascal’s invitation for a Sinister Six movie that much more tempting.

Recently, Goddard wrote and directed Bad Times at the El Royale, a thriller that spun an engaging tale filled with unscrupulous characters. That sounds like the perfect primer for Sinister Six, assuming the director is actually still interested.

For now, fans have plenty of Spider-Man content to check out, including Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4, and next summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.
