After experiencing incredible success at the box office, Sony would be crazy not to make a Venom sequel. In fact, that’s exactly what’s going to happen, according to one of the first movie’s screenwriters.
In an interview with Discussing Film, Jeff Pinkner essentially confirmed that Venom 2 is going to happen, and it may include Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
“Without revealing anything that I’m not allowed to reveal, it is not impossible that in a future (or) upcoming Venom movie, Spider-Man will play a significant role,” Pinkner said.
Marvel is only borrowing Spider-Man from Sony right now—the movie rights are complicated—with his last appearance in the MCU expected to come in Spider-Man: Far From Home. What better way to debut the character in Sony’s own universe than in a Venom sequel?
Holland’s version of Spidey has been received incredibly well since making his debut in Captain America: Civil War. Including him in Venom 2 will only make that movie that much bigger. Even more tantalizing is the prospect of Venom and Spider-Man teaming to take on Cletus Kasady’s Carnage.
To be fair, Sony hasn’t officially announced a Venom sequel, so we’re getting way ahead of ourselves. But when/if one were to get made, Spider-Man is likely to play a part.
You can pick up Venom on Blu-ray on December 18.
