Fans around the world have eagerly been awaiting our first glimpse at the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming ever since filming began. Some lucky fans in attendance at SDCC were treated to footage, but for the majority of fans, we have yet to see anything outside of the leaked set photos and videos.
Speculation that we would get a teaser before Marvel’s Doctor Strange ran feverishly, but that has since been debunked, as Marvel decided to give us our first sneak peek at Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 before the upcoming film. This obviously makes sense, since Guardians is coming 2 months earlier, and will be kicking off the summer movie season on May 5th. It’s Marvel’s, next big film, and the marketing needed to kick off soon to hype up their next movie.
So once again, the question must be asked. When are we gonna be getting our first teaser for Spider-Man? The question isn’t exactly as easy to answer as one might imagine. There’s currently three possibilities. Our first teaser could arrive, at the earliest mind you, in December. Disney has a mega blockbuster releasing; Rogue One. In addition, Sony Pictures also has a major release coming for the Christmas holiday; Passengers with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. That opens up another can of worms. According to the deal between Marvel and Sony Pictures, Sony will be the ones to market and fund the movie, and Marvel will be working on the creative side. A deal like this has been unprecedented, and Sony will be having to make the calls when it comes to the marketing aspects. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see what they decide to do.
If the trailer doesn’t come around in December, the next logical conclusion would be to have the trailer come in February with the Super Bowl. With it being the most watched event of the year, it’d be neat to see Spidey make his grand appearance then. But, that is a far ways off, sure to make some fans disappointed. Regardless, we here couldn’t be more excited for the first trailer, and it is sure to be well worth the wait.
