Update: In a statement to Comic Book Resources, a Sony Pictures representative dismissed this report, calling it an “old rumor” with “no validity whatsoever.”
A couple of months ago the leaked Sony emails revealed that Marvel was trying to work out a deal that to get the rights to Spider-Man. Sony executives were to meet this month to make a final decision on the Marvel partnership, and according to Latino Review, a deal has been made.
I’m told we’ll see an MCU Spider-Man in Infinity Wars Part 1, as that was the next logical place to insert him after they missed the window to logically include him in Civil War.
Don’t expect to see Andrew Garfield back in the role though. According to more of Sony’s leaked emails, Marvel will want to recast the character and start fresh.
Latino Review has been reliable in the past, but let’s just wait for some confirmation from Sony before we get too excited. If a deal really was made this month, it won’t be long until they let everyone know.
