New report suggests Sony are negotiating with Marvel to add Spider-Man to their Universe

This isn’t the first time there’s been talk of Spider-Man joining Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a future Avengers movie, but a new report sheds some light on how this may end up becoming a reality, making the dreams of comic book fans come true.

HitFix states that while they can’t get confirmation, they’ve heard that some “very cool” Spider-Man plans are being discussed which, “would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds.”

While Marvel don’t have a particularly good relationship with 20th Century Fox (the movie studio which own the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men characters), they hold the merchandising rights to Spider-Man, so including him in an Avengers movie would very much work to their advantage.

This would be very interesting to see happen even if it is one of those things which feels like it never will. The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did respectable numbers at the box office, those were nowhere near The Avengers, and the response to the latter from critics was tepid to say the least.

Putting Spidey in The Avengers would perhaps add a new level excitement to the character’s next solo movie and if an arrangement could be reached which suits all parties…we could be in for something very special indeed over the next few years!
