Andrew Garfield took Batkid to Disneyland after Oscars segment was scrapped

The Oscars had a hero theme last weekend, and our favorite hero was scheduled to make an appearance. Andrew Garfield was supposed to come out and make Miles Scott, a five year old leukemia patient better known as Batkid, an official super hero. For whatever reason, the segment was cut from the show and Garfield chose not to attend…. but he didn’t leave Batkid hanging! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences issued the following statement this afternoon:

Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production. Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with 5-year-old Miles Scott (Batkid) and his family.

Batkid and his family were understandably disappointed about the Oscars segment cancellation, but getting to spend the day in Disneyland with Spider-Man isn’t too shabby. Hopefully Batkid had a blast and it’s great to see Andrew Garfield step up, even when he’s not in a red and blue suit.

PS. Hi, Reddit! Thanks a lot for checking out Spider-Man News!
