Update: Director Marc Webb explains the decision to cut Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane scenes
It is being reported that the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly – which has a cover story on upcoming sci-fi movie, Divergent – that Shailene Woodley’s scenes as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have been cut from the movie. Apparently, they are instead being saved for the recently announced third instalment of the franchise. “Of course I’m bummed,” she told the magazine when asked about this news. “But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason…Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.” You can check out photos and videos from Woodley’s brief The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scenes here, here and here.
Some fans were upset at how The Amazing Spider-Man clearly cut out many crucial plot points, including the fate of Dr. Ratha and the promised “Untold Story”. Hopefully director Marc Webb has a good reason for making this change and it won’t negatively impact the movie in any way. What do you guys think?
