The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man will be called The Amazing Spider-Man 2 according to a press release issued by Sony Pictures today. There had been speculation from fans that the movie would possibly swap “Amazing” for “Spectacular”, “Sensational” or any of the other prefixes that have been used in the comic books over the years, but for now, it looks like the studio are keeping things simple. The following synopsis was also revealed.
“In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.”
This obviously doesn’t reveal an awful lot about the film, but the press release did hold a couple of other interesting pieces of information. Firstly, it confirmed that Paul Giamatti has joined the cast, although there was no mention of whether or not he is indeed playing The Rhino. Secondly, 24 and THOR actor Colm Feore has also signed up to star in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. His role is unknown, although speculation that he will play either Norman Osborn or J. Jonah Jameson has already begun to run rampant.
The sequel will begin shooting this month in anticipation of its release on May 2nd, 2014.
