A press release issued by Sony Pictures today has confirmed that Chronicle and Lawless star Dane DeHaan will play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. The 27-year-old actor was one of several names rumoured to be in the running for the role, but it was director Marc Webb who confirmed the news via his Twitter account earlier today:

“Dane is an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast,” Webb said. The character was first introduced in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #31 and battled drug addiction before later becoming the Green Goblin after learning of the death of his father at the hands of Spider-Man. He later died before being brought back to life thanks to the events of “Brand New Day”. James Franco previously portrayed Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.
