Alfred Molina would be open to returning as Doctor Octopus in 'The Sinister Six'

It’s been a decade since the release of Spider-Man 2 (makes you feel old, right?), but fans still fondly remember Alfred Molina’s performance as the villainous Doctor Octopus. Hailed as one of the greatest comic book movie baddies of all-time, any actor who takes on the role in The Sinister Six has big shoes to fill!

In a recent interview with Collider, Molina revealed that he would be very happy to actually reprise the part if offered the chance. “That was the most fun I think I’ve ever had on a movie of that kind, you know, those big, big sort of features where you spend like six months hanging off a wire, you know, and that stuff. But it was the first movie of that kind that I’ve ever been involved in. I had a wonderful time. I loved it. I mean, I’d go back and do it again in a heartbeat.”

From a realistic standpoint, the odds of this happening are slim to none. As great as he was in the role, The Amazing Spider-Man is a new franchise and bringing back an actor like Molina would go against what they’re trying to accomplish. This is something that the actor acknowledges, despite his desire to return.

“The thing is, no actor owns those roles,” he added.

Molina’s Doc Ock didn’t borrow a lot from the comic books, so what will be particularly interesting about The Sinister Six is whether writer and director Drew Goddard goes for the Ultimate or classic version of the villain. What do you think?
